The Gigabyte GSmart MS800 is a smartphone introduced in early 2008, aimed at professionals who needed reliable mobile computing power combined with communication capabilities. While the device might seem outdated by today's standards, it showcased several features that were considered advanced at the time of its release. It balanced between functionality and portability, making it a handy device for work and personal use.
The GSmart MS800 comes with a simplistic and practical design, fitting comfortably in the hand with dimensions of 116 x 59 x 15 mm and weighing 133 grams. Its body is constructed to endure everyday wear and tear while ensuring that it remains lightweight enough for easy portability. Though it only supported a Mini-SIM, the device was designed for utility rather than flair.
This smartphone features a 2.8-inch TFT resistive touchscreen that supports 65K colors, providing a decent visual experience with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. While its screen-to-body ratio is about 35.5%, it manages to deliver adequate display capabilities for the era it was built in, though the clarity and vibrancy are not comparable to today’s standards.
Under the hood, the GSmart MS800 is powered by a Marvell PXA270 520MHz processor. It runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional, targeting users who needed an easy-to-use operating system with the potential for business applications. The processing power alongside the operating system ensures that basic tasks and applications run smoothly, although it’s limited by today's standards.
The handset comes equipped with 64MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM, which provides sufficient memory for its time, allowing users to run applications necessary for professional use. It also supports additional storage via a dedicated microSD slot, enabling further expansion for storing more files, applications, and multimedia content.
On the imaging front, the GSmart MS800 is fitted with a 2MP main camera, capable of capturing basic photographs and video. Additionally, it includes a VGA camera on the front, intended for video calls, despite the limitations in resolution and quality. Nonetheless, for users during that period, these offerings sufficed for most casual photography and communication needs.
This device includes a loudspeaker and supports various alert types such as vibration, alongside downloadable polyphonic, MP3, WAV, and WMA ringtones. However, it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, which may have been a drawback for some users at the time.
The GSmart MS800 is equipped with a range of connectivity features including Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, GPS, A-GPS via the SiRF Star III chipset, and a miniUSB 1.1 port. This makes it versatile for internet browsing, data sharing, and location services through GPS, meeting the connectivity demands expected during its time of release.
The device is powered by a removable Li-Po
